The start
Firstly, We got to my hotel in Auckland were the Taekwon-do tournament was being held. We got back in the car as soon as we got there on the way to The weigh in. The weigh in is when you go to the event and way yourself for sparring. My weight was 25-32kg I knew I was underweight but I was still nervous. I stood on the scale and I weighed 31.2 kg I was so relieved. We got back in the car and went back to the hotel. I lay in my bed the night before Nationals and thought about it all night long.
Let the tournament begin
Secondly, It was the second day. We made it to the resort, I got my tag and started warming up, patterns and a bit of stretching. Then the officials called us up in our lines, and they talked about the tournament. Then… ‘charyot taekwon’ let the tournament begin. The tournament started. I was watching my brother till I heard my Dad say Kayde your nearly up. I was excited at this point but as round bye round went the nerves started to kick in. I was anxious, nervous and also terrified. But as soon as can be I was up the first pattern that we did was Won Yo. I did technique by technique and won Yay but wait that was 1 of 2 Rounds I still have one more round to win. I was up in the final. I walked on the mat and waited for the call of the pattern I had to do Dan Gun, yes this was one of my favorites.
I started the Pattern and tried my best until the end… Woo Hoo I won gold. That was one of the best feelings of my life.

Sparring
Last but not least, Sparring. I was waiting for my Round, as I was talking to my second I saw they people in my division sparring and thought they were really good. It was my turn I walked on the mat and shook his hand and we started at first he blitzed me with punches but I side kicked him in the stomach and he fell down on the ground. After that he didn't come rushing me with punches or kicks so I thought I would come in with a punch and I did and it landed.
After that punch the buzzer went and I won Yay I’m in the final.
It was the final. This boy was much taller than me but I thought I had a chance. I stepped back into my fighting stance and away we went! I moved around the ring picking my shots by luring him into me. He rushed in but I stood my ground and did a side kick which scored into his solar plexus.
The first round finished, then the second, then i waited to see who’s hand was raised. YES!! Mine went up and I am National Champion!
Even better was the fact I won best over male green belt for the whole tournament. I was so happy! What a great weekend!!
